Memory Care
We are committed to caring for individuals with varying degrees of memory impairment and helping them remain better connected to the world around them.
Germantown Home has a dedicated memory support unit with extra activities and safeguards for memory-impaired residents.
Features of our memory support focus include:
- Residents are divided into groups for activities based on their degree of memory loss. Activities are tailored to each group to provide enjoyable mental stimulation and physical movement.
- In addition to the usual CNAs, memory support CNAs have completed additional training for working with memory-impaired residents.
- We focus on non-pharmacologic management of dementia-related behavior problems. Positive redirecting is our first-line intervention. Every resident has a care plan with individualized interventions for behavior problems.
- Separate physical spaces are available to encourage residents to leave their rooms and interact with their community.
- Our memory care unit emphasizes the human touch. Our occupational therapy and recreational therapy personnel work together to optimize the cognitive functioning of memory-impaired residents.
- Germantown Home uses technology to keep residents connected. Most recently, we partnered with Pletly, a non-profit organization that unites caregivers on one platform, promoting efficient, transparent, and personalized care. Our memory care team can share relevant care information and upload photos or videos, allowing family caregivers to gain insight into their loved one’s daily life.
