NewCourtland’s Allegheny Senior Center to Host Voter Registration and Information Event for Seniors

  • Posted on Sep 20, 2016

What:
On Thursday, September 22, 2016 the Philadelphia Senior Center Allegheny will host a voter registration event for seniors in the city. The event is part of an initiative created by NewCourtland Senior Services in partnership with the City Commissioner’s Office and the Committee of Seventy called “Know Your Rights. Register. Vote!”

Volunteers will be on-site at the senior center to provide information on voting rights, polling locations, and to assist with online and paper-based voter registrations. Volunteers will continue to make themselves available to center members and the public at-large through the last day of voter registration, which is Tuesday, October 11.

“It’s critical that senior citizens be aware of the procedures available to ensure they can cast a ballot independently and privately,” says Pat Christmas, Policy Programmer at Committee of Seventy. “In this major presidential election year as in any other, we want every segment of the electorate participating in the electoral process.”

Interviews will be available with representatives from NewCourtland, the City Commissioner’s Office, the Committee of Seventy and seniors present for the event.
